Metaphysical Biology is a fictional science taught by Kouzou Fuyutsuki at Kyoto University prior to the Second Impact. Metaphysics is the study of theoretical or abstract non-physical concepts such as existence, God, and Soul. Biology is essentially the study of life. Metaphysical Biology is therefore the study of non-physical life. It is important to point out that while in the real world the Soul is still largely a theological concept, in Evangelion lore it is a proven scientific fact, and Metaphysical Biology is the study of this science.
